Suggested Preparation for Longarm Quilting
- Use 1/2" seam allowance for backings and press the seams open
- Place your backing seams so that they run parallel to the way the quilt will be loaded on the rollers
- When using borders measure quilt to determine the length they should be. Do not just sew a length of material down the quilt and cut excess. This will go a long way to prevent waviness.
- The batting and backing need to be about 8" longer in length and in width
- The quilt top and backing should be clipped of loose threads, both front and back.
- The quilt batting and backing should be square
- If you have pieced borders or pieced blocks up to the edges of your quilt, you must stabilize the edges with stay stitching 1/8" to 1/4" from the edge prior to quilting
- Remove all selvedge edges before sewing on seams on backing and make sure its square
- Mark the top of your quilt to avoid confusion
